Hair Flower Update and Christmas in July….
December 7th, 2009 § 6 Comments
In my last post I let you in on my secret obsession for hair flowers and mentioned I would be testing the waters in hair-flower making territory. What I didn’t tell you is that I wrote that post many months ago and that my experimenting happened way back in December 2009. If your interested in seeing what I was able to come up with step on into my time-machine and let’s go back to December 7, 2009.
*This post was written in Dec 2009 please excuse the slight irrelevance (but, really who doesn’t love Christmas in July?).
After a very busy weekend of laundry, cleaning house, finding a wedding band and getting our Christmas tree I was still able to sneak in crafting time while I watched Bride Wars. Unfortunately, I didn’t document the process along the way (camera was dead) so I plan to make more flowers with better effort and hope to write up a tutorial in the near future. Despite my blogger fail I will show you what I was able to create in a short period of time using left over scraps, a needle, and thread.

I don’t think it was too shabby for my first attempt, but I am picky and wasn’t too pleased. I don’t plan to use this one in my hair, but despite its cranial unworthiness it does make a decent Christmas tree ornament.
Moving on…here’s what took up the majority of our time this weekend. On Sunday afternoon we went to cut our tree for the first time (we usually go for precut) and arrived around 4pm which gave us little time before sundown to find one. As the sun quickly began to set we started to lose hope and realized finding a perfect tree wasn’t going to happen. We settled and found a tree that looked good, cut it down, and took it home. Once we got home we realized not only was the cut slanted, but our tree was also crooked. We did our best to remedy the bad cut, but nothing could be done to change the curve and our tree is reminiscent of a Dr. Seuss Whoville Tree.
If you think I kid, check it out!! It makes me laugh just thinking about our dear crooked tree, but I do hold a soft spot in my heart for it. She’s got character and there’s no switching her for a new one. What do you think? Is our tree WhoTastic or what??
From this angle she doesn’t look so bad…almost looks normal right?

But, behold this is what the other side looks like:

**Ok moving back to present day…
I know I could have edited this post to be time appropriate, but I love Christmas and I still crack up when I checkout pictures of our tree. I also love this post because this tree and memory does hold a special meaning. It was our first and only tree (as well as Christmas) to have as an engaged couple and the story behind it is a memorable one.
Did you have any project fails that were salvaged for something else? What’s your most memorable holiday moment as an engaged/married couple?
